About PhoneX India

PhoneX India is being set up in Kochi as a core extension of our US product engineering organization. This is not an offshore delivery, client staffing, or back-office engineering role. The goal is to build a serious product engineering, platform operations, and innovation hub in India. The people we hire early will help shape the technical foundation, engineering culture, and operating model for PhoneX India from the beginning.

The Role    
We are looking for a deeply hands-on senior engineer to be one of the first members of the PhoneX India team. You will own significant parts of our production systems, make sound architecture and design decisions within your domain, and raise the engineering bar through the quality of your own work and the engineers you mentor. You'll work directly with US engineering counterparts and the India principal on real production systems, platform evolution, and pragmatic AI adoption. This role suits a strong, independent engineer who wants ownership, depth, and influence — not just task execution.    
   
What You'll Do:

• Own features, services, and components end to end — design, build, ship, and operate

• Make sound design and architecture decisions within your domain and influence the broader technical direction

• Navigate large, multi-repository codebases and go deep into difficult production issues

• Raise engineering standards in your area — testing, observability, CI/CD, production readiness

• Apply AI pragmatically across product features and your own development workflow

• Mentor junior engineers and help interview and onboard new members of the founding team    

• Partner with US engineering leadership and the India principal on platform and standards

    
Ideal Profile

• 5–8 years of strong engineering experience

• Strong backend experience with TypeScript and Node.js

• Solid experience building and operating cloud-native SaaS systems on AWS

• Good understanding of serverless, event-driven, API-driven, and distributed systems

• Comfort across React, TypeScript, Java/Spring Boot, relational databases, caching, CI/CD, observability, and production operations

• Ability to navigate large, multi-repository production codebases

• Strong debugging ability, ownership mindset, and good architectural judgment

• Some experience mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards

• Genuine interest in using AI seriously and pragmatically to improve product, developer productivity, and reliabilit
